The office staff send and receive faxes and e-mails, make Photostats and attest documents for the residents. The office is also the heartbeat of the estate’s finances and ensures that the monthly levies are collected timeously and that the estate’s books balance. The office staff refer residents who need a listening ear and/or emotional support to the Goodwill Committee where people who care can listen to the resident and offer support. A monthly newsletter keeps residents informed of all activities and events of importance.
“The Protea” is the Estate’s restaurant. It makes it possible for the Estate to serve sit-down meals and to have private functions, gatherings, performances etc. there. The Restaurant is open from 08:00 to 17:00 Monday to Friday and on Sundays between 12:00 and 14:00 for lunch. The Restaurant provides balanced meals to residents according to a fixed menu while an a la carte menu is also available. The Restaurant also has a convenience store where residents can purchase essential items such as bread, milk and a limited variety of groceries. .
The Estate has a clinic and a nurse. The clinic offers the following services: taking of blood pressure, sugar and urine tests. The nurse visits residents who are recuperating from surgery or require any special attention. The nurse co-operates with doctors to ensure the speedy recovery of residents of the houses, duets and minuets. A doctor visits the Estate weekly and consults patients and provides repeats of prescriptions..
Garden and domestic cleaning services
The beautiful gardens belonging to the units and communal property are maintained by a contractor and each unit has the services of a gardener once a week. Cleaners in the service of the estate work in the units every week and are available to perform whatever household tasks the resident wishes.
The Estate has a well –equipped and well-organized library which makes provision for every possible preference. It also serves as a sociable gathering and chat place. The residents who subscribe to the Estate’s representative for “Beeld” and/or “ Rapport” have their newspapers delivered at their units
Activities such as functions, get togethers, shows, choir performances, excurtions etc. are organised. Monday nights are Bingo and a pleasant get together and a group is playing Ten Pin Bowling once a week.
Recreation Centre/Community Centre
This centre has a gymnasium where residents may even attend Pilates classes, a heated swimming pool where residents can even do water aerobics, a hairdressing salon, a pub, a snooker room, an outside braai area, a multi-purpose hall for functions and church services, a smaller hall (the Terrace) for smaller receptions, family gatherings or birthday parties. For larger occasions and concerts, the Protea with its larger area and stage can be used.
Residents are kept active and are able to relax at a braai area or play tennis, putt-putt or jukskei. The lovely gardens and inclines on the Estate offer enjoyable challenges to walkers. There are several marked walking routes within the Estate, but for more adventurous hikers there are several hiking routes outside the Estate arranged by the Krugersdorp Hiking Club. Social activities such as bring-and –braais, movies, and excursions are organized by the Social Committee. Movies are shown twice a month and bring-and braais held once a month. The Book Club meets once a month and there are various other social activities e.g. the morning market (spring festival) organized. Day excursions to interesting places are arranged from time to time and are very popular with the residents. The Garden Club meets monthly where home and garden embellishments are discussed.
The Estate also has its own laundry. The laundry offers washing, drying and ironing services at an exceptionally good rate. If residents require it, the laundry can be fetched and delivered at the units.
Transport to Shopping Malls
The Estate has its own mini-bus. Every Wednesday the bus is used to take residents to large shopping centres in the area.
The Estate has its own maintenance team. This team is responsible for the maintenance of the communal buildings and the maintenance of the exterior of the residential units. The team may also be approached to do maintenance work inside the units at a competitive price.
The Estate has its own Post Office post boxes and residents, therefore, receive their post on the premises and mail can also be posted there. There is also a facility to forward mail at the post boxes
The Goodwill Committee cares for the spiritual and emotional needs of the residents. Residents are encouraged to make use of this facility when they need a listening ear or wish to discuss confidential problems with someone. Regular church services and Bible study classes are held on the premises
